209- Wealth – By: Terry L. Weber

Let's think about what "wealth." really is...

In Proverbs 13:22 we read: “A good man leaves an inheritance of moral stability and goodness to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner finds its way eventually, into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.”

Let’s examine those words again to learn what we are being told in this quote from Proverbs: What is it that finds its way into the hands of the righteous? I believe God is saying “the wealth of the sinner” – not his riches, or money – is what finds its way into the hands of the righteous (the “righteous” by the way, are those who are in “right standing” with God).

In other words, I believe a Christian’s wealth is made up of the many, many gifts we constantly receive from God.  The gifts are too numerous to list, but I’m sure you’ll agree, all of those gifts could fill many large warehouses, and their value, in dollars, would be so great, it would boggle our minds!

So, in addition to all God gives each of us as his Christian ex-sinners, He also transfers to us, as His favored people, the gifts (wealth) of the non-believers.  Therefore, because we are God’s favorites, He wants us to have the very best of everything.

The Bible, in Job 21:13 says: “They (meaning the wicked) spend their days in prosperity, and peacefully go down to Sheol (Hell) in a moment.” Then, in Job 31-28 – in part – we are told: “If I have made gold my trust and hope, or have said to fine gold, ‘You are my confidence’; if I rejoiced because my wealth was great and because my powerful hand alone had gotten much…this would have been a heinous and principal iniquity to demand the judges’ action and punishment, for I would have denied and been false to God who is above…”

Now hear this: When God talks about money He doesn’t call it “wealth”, instead He calls it: “capital and sufficiency from righteous labors” (Prov. 3:9).  Then He says of riches: “Riches (money) provide no security in any day of wrath and judgment…(Prov. 11:4).

So, finally, I believe you and I should direct our attention, efforts and work toward leaving our children and their children, an inheritance of moral stability and goodness. Not money (“capital and sufficiency from righteous labors”).  I believe that kind of an inheritance to be the only true and Godly – wealth.
