Cheerful Givers

In his book:  “Movers Of Men And Mountains” R. G. LeTourneau said  "It’s OK to give God credit, but He can use cash too!" (Le Tourneau is the inventor of the bulldozer).

LeTourneau also said:  “My slogan is not how much of my money I give to God, but how much of His money I keep for myself.”

And then he continues with this classic remark: “ You know, they say you can’t take it with you, but I say you can send it on ahead, and have it waiting to your credit when you get there!” LeTourneau gave 90% of his income back t God for many years – and lived very well indeed, on the remaining 10%.

As a businessman, I agree with LeTourneau and his remarks about money.  Money is a tool given to us by God t use for Him. He expects us to be good managers (stewards) of His money and He even tells us in His book of instructions (the Bible) that His suggested commission is only 10% (the tithe).  Anything we choose to give Him over and above the tithe is strictly up to us.  God calls this “over and above” “an offering.” I’d say that is a pretty good deal, wouldn’t you?  No, get this:

He also sweetens the pot further by telling us: when we give Him at least the tithe, He will give it back to us multiplied by 30, 60 or even 100 times! Now that is a heavenly bargain like none on earth, if I ever heard one!  The only condition, if you want to call it that, is this: we should be obedient regarding the tithe. Would you say that is a good deal?

In my opinion, it bills down to these questions: Is my God trustworthy?  Can I believe what He says: “Give and it will be given to you” – “use it or lose it,” etc.  So, remember: If you are in financial trouble the smartest thing you can do is to start giving.

Give tithes and offerings to the Lord.  Give time.  Give work. Give love.  Then your return, when poured into your lap, will be great, even when it is pressed down, it will overflow so it is running over and spilling onto those around you!  No wonder Christians are the world’s most cheerful givers!
