No more! My Canadian friend, Ken Laninga, creates beautiful walking sticks from Diamond Willow he harvests in Northern Canada. The process of creating one of these beautiful sticks is, as you can imagine, very time consuming and labor intensive. He'd nearly worn out his hands before a friend straightened him out by suggesting this incredible tool. Sanding with the Flex Drum Sander turns a chore into a pleasure. We liked this tool so much that we decided to make it easier for everyone to own one, by getting a dealership and selling them at a price "lower than the other guys". Whether you have a few small projects or a truckload of walking sticks, you need the Flex Drum Sander! All you need to go along with it is an electric motor to mount the sanding drum onto; my friend, Ken, salvaged one from an old appliance(see note below about this). Here he is with his set-up. Note that he fastened the motor to a piece of plywood which clamps to the bench. He slipped some cardboard around the shaft, between the motor and the sander drum just to keep the dust out of the motor. In poor weather he runs the sander in the garage and uses a shop-vac to eliminate the dust. Get the soft foam padded Flex Drum Sander's results at a fraction of the cost! Use the amazing "FLEX DRUM"SANDER" for any project that calls for shaping or a "Rounded Over" effect. The specially designed metal shaft clamps to YOUR 5/8" motor shaft. (There is no motor included in the kit.)  I Suggest a: 1725 RPM, 1/3 HP, 110v motor. (See motor ideas below.) Also provided is an adapter to allow use on a 1/2" motor shaft. The sanding drum is 2 3/8" diameter x 7" long and it simply slides onto the metal shaft. Each Flex Drum Sander kit comes complete with 3 foam padded sanding sleeves (1 coarse - 80 grit, 1 medium - 120 grit and 1 fine - 220 grit). The foam padded sanding sleeve simply slides onto the shaft. I have seen other sanders with a large washer at each end of the drum which can tend to gauge into your project - The Flex Drum Sander does not use a washer and your work is kept safe. Note: No motor is included with the above kit.  The motor I use is 1725 RPM and 1/3 HP, 110v.  Sometime you can get a free motor just by removing the motor from a discarded washing machine or clothes dryer.  Or ask for an inexpensive motor at one ot your local appliance repair shops. You will need a motor that has a shaft that is either 5/8" dia. or 1/2" dia.  The metal shaft in the Flex Drum Sander Kit is made to clamp onto a 5/8" shaft, but there is included in the kit,  an adaptor to allow the shaft to be used on any 1/2" shaft. NOTE: Here's a money saving tip about motors. You might decide not to buy a sander when you see that the motor is NOT included. BUT, you can get a FREE MOTOR. The idea is that if you have ANYTHING to get rid of, FREE, you post a message on that site and everybody who has signed up (FREE) gets your note. If you NEED something, then you can post that there too. MANY towns and cities have a "group." Frequently I see somebody trying to give away an old appliance that still has a working motor in it.
